The Senior IT Financial Systems Analyst reports to Information Technology and supports the CNI Corporate Finance Department. This position is responsible for maintenance and patching of our Financial System, analyzing operational processes and evaluating and proposing technical solutions. The Senior IT Financial Systems Analyst regularly interacts with end users to communicate status of existing tasks/projects and understand emerging requirements.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge/quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative/motivation, cooperation/relationships, problem analysis/discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral/written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability/dependability, flexibility and ownership/accountability of actions taken.

Provides business analysis, system analysis and develops specifications/solutions for accounting, contract management and third party financial systems.

Works with end users to determine new system requirements, prepare requirements documentation, functional design, use cases and system customizations.

Develops test plans, coordinates and conducts testing, documents testing results, develops implementation plans and implements new software configurations.

Sets up new users in the financial system and distributes login information.

Conducts periodic security reviews of the financial system.

Monitors termination reports and deactivates users in the financial system.

Assists users in developing training and process documentation and conducts training.

Provides end user guidance and support for the application.

Troubleshoots reported issues, gathers information, updates help tickets, and escalates to vendor support as needed.

Assists with application software lifecycle which includes planning and testing of upgrades and patches.

Runs and analyzes application administration reports.

Provides user recommendations to increase efficiency and encourage effective use of the system.

Assists with data projects and reporting.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.


Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience with system analysis and testing of financial systems preferred. Experience with SQL, MS Excel, and report writing software.



Knowledge of Deltek's Costpoint Financial System is preferred but not required.

Working knowledge of Finance and Budget systems and terminology.

Prior experience as a business systems administrator, responsible for system maintenance and patching in coordination with end users.

Operational knowledge and broad grasp of IT cross-functional operations and processes.

Ability to translate requirements into technical specifications and translate technical specifications into system functionality.

Working knowledge of report writing tools.

Familiarity with Workday Human Capital Management and/or Concur is desirable but not required.

Ability to explain technical information in a non-technical manner (verbal and written).

Skilled in facilitating teamwork and coordinating efforts for the successful achievement of goals.

Solid organizational skills relevant to carrying out day-to-day responsibilities.

Detail-oriented with ability to effectively multi-task and manage multiple projects and priorities.

Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.

Excellent customer service skills with ability to build professional working relationships.

Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
