Job Description Provides nursing care and coordinates
medical/psychiatric care for Crisis Center clients; provides
clients with continuity of care. Essential Functions
- Orders medications and all nursing supplies for the Crisis
Unit
- Checks inventory of medications in locked storage as
indicated
- Maintains emergency medical kit on a routine basis and ensures
all contents are accounted for and are within date
- Ensures efficacy of current or previously used medication
- Counts and documents locked PRN (as needed) medications every
shift
- Ensures medication consents are received in a timely
manner
- Attends treatment team meeting daily and coordinates with the
physician, therapist, and case manager on any client changes
- Ensures required client information is obtained to maintain
Order Connect for the discharge process
- Performs nursing assessments to identify clients' needs and
plan of care; provides treatment for existing and emergency health
care conditions. Assesses for medical appropriateness for admission
and continually assesses throughout clients' stay; consults with
Psychiatrist if change in medical status occurs
- Administers medication and maintains clinical charts. Observes,
records, and initiates appropriate action concerning client
reaction to medication and therapeutic procedure
- Monitors activities and job duties of Mental Health
Technicians; maintains cohesiveness between shifts Reviews and
monitors clients' progress through supervision and disposition of
cases; confers with other programs/agencies, doctors, etc. as
required regarding client welfare
- Documents care according to nursing standards of care, Agency
policy and procedures, as well as reviews the completion of nursing
documentation
- Audits client charts on a routine basis to ensure nursing
service staff is compliant with Commission of Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Department of Mental Health (DHS)
and Oklahoma Department of Mental Health Substance Abuse and
Services (ODMHSAS) certification requirements
- Assists in assessment of clients' mental status on a daily
basis
- Performs a variety of professional medical nursing duties under
the direction and supervision of the Psychiatrist; collects routine
laboratory specimen, administers injectable medications and
emergency medications, communicates with pharmacies regarding
doctor's orders for medications and related duties
- Attends staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to learn Agency
policy, rules, regulations, and procedures; participates in ongoing
in-service training as well as pertinent external training
- Maintains core competencies in relation to working with
co-occurring disorders through continuing education and
implementing skills into all aspects of treatment
- Assists in the development and implementation of programmatic
goals and objectives
- Completes time records for Crisis Unit, nursing service staff,
through time reporting program
- Coordinates with Red Rock Pharmacy for medications/supplies for
unit use and/or discharges
- Assumes administrative duties for the Crisis Unit in the
absence of the Nurse Coordinator
- Directs Lead Mental Health Technician with dietary
recommendations per DHS requirements
- Ensures unit is clean at all times and all cleaning duties are
completed as assigned; unit is ready for any unscheduled
inspection
- Ensures all unit drills are completed on time
- Assists with staff disciplinary actions when indicated Provides
continuous feedback to Nurse Coordinator regarding unit and staff
concerns
- Conducts annual performance reviews according to policy
- Supports and assists with the facilitation of Care Plans for
consumers within the Red Rock Health Team
- Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrates experience in use of physical assessment skills
and the ability to handle medical emergencies
- Must be able to work shift-work
- Commitment to the mission of Red Rock BHS
- One-year experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with administration of
psychotropic medications preferred
- Knowledge of psychiatric nursing theory, practices, techniques
and procedures preferred
- Experience working in a psychiatric setting preferred Benefits
