Job Description:

*DEPARTMENT*: Graduate Medical Education *JOB TITLE*: Clinical Faculty *GENERAL DEFINITION*: This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health (CNDH) at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center (CNMC) and Clinics. *SUPERVISION RECEIVED*: The Clinical Faculty Physician reports to the Family Practice Residency Program Director. *SUPERVISION EXERCISED*: Family Practice Residents *ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *1. Maintain clinical skills by providing direct patient care. 2. Instruct, supervise and provide education to Family Practice Residents 3. Devote sufficient time to the educational program to fulfill supervisory and teaching responsibilities. 4. Demonstrate a strong interested in the education of Residents. 5. Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating Residents in each of the ACGME competency areas. 6. Participate in ongoing learning activities, including demonstration of professionalism, cognitive experience, self-assessment and life-long learning, and assessment of performance in practice. 7. Establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship. 8. Regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences. 9. Demonstrate scholarship by one or more of the following: * Peer-reviewed funding
* Publication of original research or review articles in peer reviewed journals, or chapters in textbooks
* Publication or presentation of case reports or clinical series at local, regional, or national professional and scientific society meetings
* Participation in national committees or educational organizations. 10. Encourage and support Residents in scholarly activities. 11. Dedicate at least 60% time (at least 24 hours per week, or 1200 hours per year) to the program, exclusive of patient care without Residents. 12. Devote the majority of professional effort to teaching, administration, scholarly activity and patient care within the program. 13. Participate in a structured program of faculty development that involves activities designed to enhance the effectiveness of teaching, administration, leadership, scholarship, clinical and behavioral components of performance. 14. Adheres to the CNDH Medical Staff Bylaws and Policies and Procedures 15. Maintains a competent, considerate and objective professional relationship with patients to minimize complaints, dissatisfaction or adverse impact regarding services. 16. Assists the Program Director in the successful implementation of the program in accordance with required accreditation and healthcare system guidelines and standards. 17. Serves on hospital committees and performance improvement teams as assigned. 18. Participates in continuing medical education as required by the Board of Licensure. 19. Treats all patients with respect and maintains a cooperative attitude with other employees to facilitate quality patient care. 20. Maintains sensitivity to Native American culture. 21. All other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *Education*: * MD or DO degree * Current AOA or ABMS Certification/Re-Certification in specialty. * Successful completion of an accredited Residency Program in specialty preferred. * Current, valid and unrestricted license to Medicine * Current, valid and unrestricted DEA certificate * Current, valid and unrestricted OBNDD certificate * Ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) specific to the field of specialty is required * Current membership to the Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators Knowledge *Skills and Abilities: ** Knowledge of and ability to apply professional Family Practice principles, procedures and techniques. * Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment. * Ability to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality patient care. * Ability to receive detailed information and express and exchange ideas orally. * Ability to perform under stress. * Must possess and/or be willing to develop and enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential job functions. * Possesses excellent written and oral communication, listening and social skills. * Ability to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels, and value systems. * Professionally performs in a tactful manner. * Taps experience and uses independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals. *Training and Experience: ** Minimum of three - five years of clinical experience. * Requisite special experience and documented educational and administrative experience acceptable to review committee * Current member of the CNDH Medical Staff with privileges in respective specialty. * Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of the clinical interventions and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served; * Demonstrated experience in teaching/training of medical students; * Attend, as required, education/training programs/workshops for Residency Program Directors (Osteopathic Medical Education Leadership Conference (OME) or the annual meeting of the Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators (AODME). *Physical Demands and Requirements: ** Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with the position. * Position may require long periods of sitting, standing, reaching, lifting and bending to perform procedures and treatment. *Work Environment: ** Work may require the use of surgical mask, gloves and/or eyeglasses.
