Job Description:

*Job Title: * ED RN *General Description: * This position is located at The Chickasaw Nation Department of Health. This facility provides professional medical and nursing services to Indian Beneficiaries and others according to EMTALA in the Emergency Department (ED). RN's are responsible for adhering to established standards of nursing practice and for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the emergency department. *Supervision Received: * Work is performed under the general supervision of the Executive Officer of Nursing, Director of Inpatient Nursing and Senior Manager of ED/Critical Care, with immediate supervision of the ED Manager. Work is performed with a moderate degree of independence and latitude in accomplishing professional nursing duties. Will work closely with the ED providers. *Supervision Exercised: * May provide direction, in the provision of patient care, to a support staff of Licensed Practical Nurses, aides, and medical clerks. *Supervision Essential Job Functions: ** Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health.
* Assess the physical, bio-psychosocial, and health education needs of all ages of patients experiencing urgent and emergent conditions who present to the ED and initiates the Emergency Treatment Protocols as necessary. Is able to triage patients according to the Emergency Severity Index.
* Is able to interpret all cardiac arrhythmias, provides close monitoring and emergency treatment as necessary.
* Is efficient in the didactic and use of all equipment in the ED.
* Calculates and safely administers all prescribed medications according to nursing standards and facility policy and protocols.
* Is adequately trained and credentialed in the area of Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and NIHSS Credentialing.
* Is a strong advocate and active participant in patient education (i.e., diagnosis, medications and discharge instructions)
* Advocate age and culturally appropriate, holistic patient care based upon facility mission statements and as outlined in the Nursing Department and ED standards, policies, and procedures.
* Ensures adherence to facility standards and those of other regulatory agencies.
* Implement interventions appropriate to the age specific needs of the patient requiring emergency care.
* Participates in hospital and ED performance improvement activities to measure, assess and improve the quality on nursing care delivered to patients.
* Maintains confidentiality, security, and integrity of data and information.
* Provides for the unique communication, and cultural needs, and concerns of the emergency patient and/or family.
* Protects the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy.
* Shares responsibilities for maintaining adequate supplies and equipment, as well as the general upkeep of the ED to maintain a safe environment.
* Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by the reduction and control of environmental hazards and risks and prevention of accidents and injuries.
* Transfers care as appropriate utilizing the SBAR system.
* Maintains and promotes professionalism.
* Is courteous to patients, staff and visitors.
* Participates in hourly lobby rounding.
* All other duties as assigned. *Minimum Qualifications**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: **Required* - Basic computer skills, typing and keyboarding skills *Required* - Medication administration principles and the ability to pass a medication test *Required* - Customer services skills *Required* - De-escalation techniques *Education: **Associates Required* - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing *Education Note: **Training And Experience: **Required Experience* (6 months - 3 years) - (One Year) nursing experience in an Emergency Department *Preferred Experience* (3 -5 years) - (Three Years) critical care nursing experience *Preferred Training* (0 - 6 months) - 5-Level Triage Systems *Licenses, Certifications, Other: **Required* - Current unrestricted Oklahoma RN license *Required* - Must maintain current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications (must obtain BLS within one (1) month of hire; ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire, if not current). *Preferred* - TNCC Certification *Preferred* - CEN Certification *Physical Requirements: **Required* - Work on the assigned unit requires considerable standing, walking bending and stooping. The individual may be required to lift in excess of 50 pounds, while helping patients in and out of bed, to and from wheelchairs, and on or off carriers. He/She must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment. *Work Environment: * Work is performed in the hospital environment. There is common exposure to contagious disease. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, family members and visitors.
