Must-Have: Must have travel experience and step-down experience.
Experience in a med/surg unit is required. Description: Under
general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a
variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to
complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed
medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for
assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients
and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients and observes
physical manifestations of patients. Intervenes when necessary
based on observations. Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood
products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with
patients and their families in sharing care plans while in the
hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and
families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient
care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support
staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates for this role
should have a strong background in acute care surgical floor
experience. Experience with patients post-operatively is essential,
including care for new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies,
nasogastric tubes, or similar needs. Some patients may require
step-down care. Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 5 or 6:1 for
surgical patients and 3 or 4:1 for step-down care. Knowledge of
professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate
nursing services is essential. Strong verbal and written
communication skills are necessary. Must respond effectively to the
cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer
skills are needed. Preferred education includes a Bachelor's Degree
