(211264) Senior Billing Compliance Specialist. - Job Number: 211264 Organization Job Location Schedule : Full-time Work Schedule : Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm Salary Range : Salary commensurate with experience Benefits Provided : Yes Required Attachments : Resume, Cover Letter Job Description - - - Senior Billing Compliance Specialist Manages the functions and procedures of the Health Information/Medical Records responsibilities according to facilities policies and procedures, HIPAA and State Laws. Performs audits for medical documentation, coding and billing to ensure compliance with Federal, State and other payer requirements. Contributes expertise to the development of compliance training to professional medical care providers and staff. Maintains and supports a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity. Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements and external laws as they relate to coding and medical billing. Manages the functions and procedures of the Health Information/Medical Records responsibilities according to facilities policies and procedures, HIPAA and State Laws. Performs audits for medical documentation, coding and billing to ensure compliance with Federal, State and other payer requirements. Contributes expertise to the development of compliance training to professional medical care providers and staff. Maintains and supports a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity. Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements and external laws as they relate to coding and medical billing. Audit Medical Records. Performs analysis of medical records for accuracy of ICD-9 and CPT coding to ensure standards and regulatory compliance for services billed. Performs focused audits on identified risk areas. Report Findings. Develops reports to communicate audit findings and feedback to professional medical care providers (MD/PA/NP) and ancillary staff. Coding Research. Performs research via electronic and other media to assure understanding of documentation and coding is current and relevant. HIPAA Compliance. Supervises the security of Protected Health Information. Serves as primary resource on HIPAA, State Law, Release of PHI and record retention for department managers, clinic staff, providers and administration. Acts as OUHS HIPAA Privacy Officer and monitors compliance with the privacy program, investigates incidents in which a breach of PHI may have occurred, reports breaches as necessary and ensures patients' rights in accordance with state and federal laws. Oversee s the retention and proper/timely destruction of medical records in accordance with Oklahoma archives and records Commission Disposition Schedule. Training. Coordinates educational activities for professional medical care providers (MD/PA/NP), ancillary staff, and billing personnel on regulatory issues. Presents in-house seminars on regulatory and coding updates to professional medical care providers (MD/PA/NP), ancillary staff and department billing staff. Quality Assurance. Consults on OUHS policy and procedures regarding health information. Performs Quality Improvement projects. Assists in completion of the HIPAA privacy and Security self-Audits and annual on-site audits per OUHSC Compliance Officer. Supervision. Supervises the medical records staff and oversees the release of records to patients, outside health care providers, insurance companies and attorneys. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed in order to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Job Requirements - - - Required Education:Bachelors Degreeor equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: 24-36 months experience in a medical facility with medical coding and billing Skills: Knowledge of documentation and coding of diagnosis and procedures using ICD and CPT methodology Knowledge of Federal and State regulatory requirements for billing professional services in an academic setting Experience using Electronic Medical Records software Knowledge of computer spreadsheets, graphs and word documentation Skilled in Web-based research for federal, state and other regulatory body requirements Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines Ability to handle stressful situations Excellent organizational, problem-solving, management and communication skills Strong customer orientation Excellent communication skills Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously Team Player Detail orientated Certifications: Certified by: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Coding certifications are: Registered Health Information Administrators (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Advertised Physical Requirements: Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, or pull medical records or boxes of charts up to 10 pounds. May need to climb small step stool, crouch, or bend to pull charts from storage. Department Preferences: 60 months experience in coding and billing in a medical setting. Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management Supervision: Might supervise one full-time staff assistant and up to three (3) student assistants.
