Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Student Outreach and Engagement

The mission of the Assistant Director for DEI/ Student Outreach and Engagement is to develop and provide ongoing training, programming, outreach, and engagement to undergraduate and graduate students. This role will partner with the HSC and Tulsa Campuses partners to help facilitate, develop, implement, and administer diversity, equity, and inclusion related activities, events, programs, and special projects. The position will lead the coordination of student-facing programs by planning the program, coordinating activities and projects, distributing information, communicating, troubleshooting, preparing reports, collecting, and maintaining data, attending meetings, etc.

  • Responsible for representing the University of Oklahoma and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in various settings involving undergraduate and graduate student engagement with other students, faculty, staff, government partners, primary and secondary schools, relevant community, and state agencies
  • Coordinate/oversee activities to foster and maintain strong relationships between students, faculty, and staff across the OU campuses
  • Plan and organize meetings, presentations, events, and other activities on behalf of the DEI Office geared toward undergraduate and graduate student success. Coordinate or assist in coordinating special projects: design communications and other publications within the Office of DEI
  • Enhance collaborative partnerships with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, campus leadership, academic divisions, student affairs, and enrollment services to improve recruitment, retention, progression to graduation of underserved and historically marginalized student and graduate student populations
  • Connect all students to appropriate campus resources (educational, health and wellness, career planning, etc.)
  • Research, collect, and analyze data or information and prepare reports or responses to inquiries. Assess the needs of students, faculty, and staff and develop and implement targeted programs and services. Participate in the overall assessment of programs and services offered by DEI to ensure impact
  • Manage day-to-day operations of designated areas, including budget oversight, records, student assistant, and graduate assistant supervision (student files, inventory, officer rosters, community rosters, other office files, etc.)
  • Responsible for the planning and implementing the programs, training, and events to increase awareness, education, and advocacy around at-risk student populations within the OU community and the broader OU community
  • Serve as the DEI Liaison to Staff Council and Faculty Senate as needed
  • Will plan, develop, and implement identified targeted programming (e.g., Welcome Reception, Excellence in Action Events.)
  • Will assist in developing and writing internal and external grants
  • Serve as a resource for best practices related to undergraduate and graduate student needs and success
  • Research local, regional, and national awards for the Office of DEI
  • Provide training and education to the various OU campuses and departments on retention practices pertinent to student success and achievement
  • Collaborate with other DEI team members as needed
  • Serve on OU committees and boards, as assigned by the Vice President or designee. (e.g., Search committees, university-wide committees, Task Force groups, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 24 months of program development, training, and diversity programming experience

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience of active engagement with advocacy-based and grassroots organizations that serve undergraduate and graduate students
  • Knowledge of operating within a university culture and setting
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Canvas, and other related software programs/modalities
  • Strong process improvement skills/experience
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative and respectful manner
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with complexity on a frequent basis
  • Ability to travel

Advertised Physical Requirements:
