AssistantManager, Store Manager WorkersSupervised: Departmental
Sales Associate(s) FLSA Status: Non- Exempt Safety Sensitive I. Job
Summary The Department Manager is in a position of Managementwith
supervision over assigned Department(s) and associates in said
area. Moredetailed information and knowledge about products is
required. Merchandising,pricing, inventory control and housekeeping
within the Department(s) areperformed daily. The ability to
interact with Assistant Store Manager, StoreManager, Corporate
personnel, and vendors is a must. Must be able to
analyzedepartmental financial and inventory levels as well as
maintain customerservice level. II . Qualifications
A.Education:Basic education which includes ability tocompetently
read and write. B.Training and Experience: Someexperience in
selling/serving customers and home improvement knowledge
isdesirable, as well as limited typing and supervisory skills, but
not required. C.Job Knowledge: Should have general knowledge of the
building and homeimprovement industry. D.Physical Demands: Work
requires somephysical effort; involves standing, walking, and
medium lifting. Works in andout of air-conditioned environments as
well as non-A/C controlled environments.(Important: This job is
classified in thephysical demands section of the job description
[Form IV-31] as constant mediumwork and occasional heavy
work.Thisform must be reviewed with and signed by the applicant.
III. Essential Duties and Responsibilities A.Must befamiliar and in
compliance with Stine Policies and Procedures
B.Maintaindepartmental inventories at desired levels for maximum
turnover andprofitability. C.Display orarrange for the display of
merchandise sold in assigned department(s). D.Place ordersfor
merchandise in assigned department, using forms and procedures that
conformto policy. E.Suggest newmerchandise lines, new sales
techniques, etc., to the manager and/or buyingoffice. F.Make
pricechanges by hand or mechanically, on merchandise according to
price change sheets,invoices, price books, etc G.Settlecustomer
claims or handle customer complaints. H.Restockmerchandise displays
as they are depleted by customer purchases. I.Participatein sales
activities within assigned department(s). J.Handlespecial orders
for non-stock items. K.Relieve ascashier. L.Recommenditems and
services within assigned department(s) to advertise and promote. M.
Relay communications to employees from the managerand vice versa.
N.Handle thetraining and development of sales personnel in assigned
department(s). O.Prepare sales floor and sales personnel
foranticipated increase in sales and customer traffic as a result
of advertisingand promotional activities. P.Make, ororder the
making of, various departmental signs, promotional banners, etc.,
asneeded. Q.Shop orarrange for shopping of major competitors.
R.Handleorders for seasonal merchandise. S.Makeperiodic reports on
sales, stock levels, etc., to the store manager or buyingoffice.
T.Adjust or plan for the adjustment ofinventory levels in assigned
department(s) to conform to sales, promotions, andother peaks and
valleys in merchandise demands. U.Checkinventory at beginning and
ending of sales. V.Conduct orparticipate in the conducting of sales
and store meetings for employees. W.Estimateprices on outside jobs
such as kitchen remodeling, carpet laying, etc. The above duties
are not intended, nor should they beconsidered, a complete list of
responsibilities. Times may arise whenadditional responsibilities
are given by management as business necessitates. Physical Demands
and Environmental Conditions Physical Demands andEnvironmental
Conditions are components of Worker Characteristics.
PhysicalDemands analysis is a systematic way of describing the
physical activities thata job requires. It is concerned only with
the physical demands of the job; itis not concerned with the
physical capacity of the worker. EnvironmentalConditions are the
surroundings in which a job is performed. To be consideredpresent,
an Environmental Condition must be specific and related to the job.
We, at Stine, Inc. haveattempted to classify each in one of five
categories, which could involve up to20 factors in physical demands
and 14 factors in environmental conditions. Eachposition is
performed as a constant routine in the job function or
isoccasionally performed. A further definition of each physical
demand and/orenvironmental condition with the examples can be in
the "Handbook for JobAnalysis": put out by the Department of Labor.
This can be reviewed with theoffice manager at each store. Exerting
20 to 50 pounds offorce occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force
frequently, or greater thannegligible up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects. Physical demandrequirements are in
excess of those for Light Work. Also, may include thefollowing
physical demands; climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling,reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing,
near acuity and depthperception, accommodation, color vision and
field of vision. Environmentalcondition factors may include wet
and/or humid, noise intensity level moderate,atmospheric
conditions, exposure to weather, proximity to moving
mechanicalparts and working in high, exposed places. Occasional -
HEAVY WORK Exerting 50 to 100 pounds offorce occasionally, or 25 to
50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 poundsof force
constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in
excessof those for Medium Work, Also, may include the following
physical demands;climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling,
reaching, handling,fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near
acuity and depth perception,accommodation, color vision and field
of vision. Environmental conditionfactors may include wet and/or
humid, noise intensity level of loud,atmospheric condition,
exposure to weather, proximity to moving mechanicalparts and
working in high, exposed places and may be exposed to toxic
